Shilaidah Kuthibari is a historical place where the great universal poet and the Nobel laurate Rabindranath Tagore lived for a part of his life. Actually it is a country house which was made by the father of Rabindranath, Dwarkanath Tagore.

Rabindranath passed the important time of his carrier while staying at Shilaidah which is situated at Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia. During this time he wrote many world famous poems and songs.

Rabindranath was the landlord of this place. He used to stay here actually to build good relation with the administration. He stayed here during his youth life. After his departure from Bangladesh it became famous as a historical place and when the poet was awarded the Nobel Prize the place had been known to world.

He enriched Bengali literature through his writings during the time when he stayed there. He decorated the area finely and now people go there not only for the historical glory but also for its natural beauty.

It is located at a distance of about 20 km from Kushtia town. Beside the bank of the river Padma it is a nice place.

Shilaidah Kuthibari is a beautiful red sprawling building surrounded by a large expanse of trees, plants and flowers. Besides the main building there is a pond. An old well can be seen hardly also. Rabindranath used to write poems while sitting beside of the pond. The poet created many notable poems and songs sitting under a tree which is still present here. There are some sitting spaces around the pond where people now sit for relax.

There is a museum here which has some rare elements and house hold things which had been used by Rabindranath. There are two auditoriums inside of the Kuthibari area. Almost every day some cultural functions are arranged here for visitors recreation.

There is a picnic spot just beside the kuthibari. In the picnic spot area there is a car parking space. A guest house is also situated in the picnic spot. There is another guest house in front of the picnic spot and beside of the Kuthibari.

In Shilaidah Kuthibari you can enjoy horse riding, magic show and some other very interesting events also.

The road that goes to the Shilaidah Kuthibari from Kushtia town and Rajbari district is good. So the transport system is very fine. Everyday people come here to visit from several places.

Rabindranath Tagore is a worldwide known personality who won the Nobel Prize in 1913 for literature. So the place of Shilaidah which is called as Kuthibari has a great historical view.
